He was parked in the commuter lot off Erbes Road Estates, already in his work clothes, and the Cherokee just sat there. Fob did nothing. No lock beep, no unlock, no response from the door handles. He knew the car was working because he'd driven it the night before. He just couldn't get in.
He's a pharmaceutical rep. First call was 90 minutes out, two cities away, and missing it meant missing the whole day's route. He called the dealer first. Earliest they could see him was Monday. The issue was the CR2032 had dropped low enough that the fob couldn't wake the push-button system.
Fresh battery, reseated contacts, confirmed all five buttons and the keyless entry was responding cleanly. Handed him a spare CR2032 for the console.
He made his first call that morning. The dealer comparison came up on its own when he said what they'd quoted him -- a tow, a new fob, and a five-day wait. He saved a good chunk just by calling a mobile locksmith instead.
