1997 Jeep Cherokee
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does the mobile key replacement process work for this vehicle?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN, and I confirm the right blank and give you a price. When I arrive, I either duplicate your worn key or decode the lock directly if the original is too far gone to copy accurately. I cut the replacement on site, test it in the door and the ignition, and hand it to you working. That is the whole process.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you show up?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to verify the cut. That is it. Same documents a dealer would ask for, but you are handing them to me next to your own vehicle instead of at a service counter.

Q: My key turns but the Cherokee is hard to start or the ignition feels loose. Is that a key problem?

On a Cherokee this age, worn ignition cylinders are common. The tumblers wear down over time and a heavily worn key can start feeling sloppy or intermittently fail to turn the cylinder cleanly. If your key looks visibly thinned out or the cuts are rounded off, a fresh key cut to the correct depth can help. If the cylinder itself is worn or the key turns but nothing happens, that is an ignition cylinder issue, not just a key issue.

Q: I lost my only key. Can a new one still be made without having a copy?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 1997 Cherokee is a normal job. I decode the lock at the vehicle and cut a new key from scratch. No original needed.

1997 Jeep Cherokee Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A plumber called me one morning from his carport off Main Street in Downtown Santa Paula. He had a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and his only key was getting flaky in the door lock.

Smart call getting a spare made before it quit entirely. He'd already called a dealer and they told him to bring it in. He runs service calls across Ventura County all day. A two-hour dealer wait was not happening.

I met him at the carport before his first job of the day. His original key was worn enough that I decoded the door lock directly rather than copying the worn cut. That way the new key matches what the lock actually wants, not what years of use wore the original down to. Cut the replacement right there on the hood, tested it in the door and the ignition, handed it to him.

He was back in his truck and on the road in under twenty minutes. No tow, no waiting room, no lost work hours. The dealer comparison came up when he mentioned the quote they gave him. He just shook his head. Said the same thing most people say.

Jeep Cherokee Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1997 Jeep Cherokee somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever your vehicle is parked, whether that is your driveway, your job site, or a lot in Downtown Santa Paula. For a 1997 Cherokee this job does not need a shop. I carry the correct key blank and a portable cutter. The whole thing happens on site, one visit, no tow required.
