2006 Jeep Cherokee Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A yoga instructor near Dizdar Park in Camarillo had a 2006 Jeep Cherokee with a remote head key that was falling apart. The plastic housing around the blade pivot had cracked clean through, and the two halves were only staying together because of habit and hope.
She went to the dealer first. They quoted a full replacement, cut and programmed, and told her there was no other option. What they left out is that the internal circuit board, the transponder chip, and the CR2032 battery compartment were all fine. The damage was cosmetic.
I met her at her duplex driveway. Her key's FCC ID was OHT692427AA. I popped the cracked shell open on the hood, pulled the circuit board and the 4D transponder chip, and dropped them into a new aftermarket housing with the same five-button layout and identical snap fit. The button pads lined up, the battery door seated right, and the blade channel matched.
Then I decoded her existing blade with my SIP22 Lishi and cut a fresh emergency insert from the read. Tested lock, unlock, hatch, panic, remote start range from about 40 feet out. Every function responded clean. Started the engine twice to confirm the SKIM module handshake with the transponder.
She kept the old cracked shell as proof of what the dealer wanted to charge full price to replace. The internals never needed touching. Just a new house for the same guts, done on site for a fraction of what they wanted.
