Got a call from Freedom Park in Camarillo. A woman said her 2008 Jeep Cherokee had one working key left and the buttons were getting mushy. Lock still worked if she pressed hard. Unlock was a coin flip.

The SKIM system on these KK Cherokees needs the existing working key verified first, then accepts the new key registration. Whole handshake took about twenty minutes.
I handed her the new remote head key and she clicked unlock from across the parking lot, testing the range like she expected it to fail. It didn't. She clicked it again. Then she just held both keys next to each other, comparing them, like she was making sure I hadn't somehow cloned the worn-out buttons too.
Both keys start the Jeep, both remotes work all six buttons, and she's no longer one lost key away from a much bigger problem. The whole thing cost her a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
