Got a call from a travel photographer staying at an Airbnb near Chesebro Canyon Trail in Simi Valley. Late evening. She had a 1996 Wrangler TJ and her only key had snapped clean at the bow, leaving the blade stuck in the ignition cylinder.

Pulled the broken blade stub out of the ignition with an extractor. Took maybe two minutes. Then I read the wafers in the cylinder to get the original key cuts. The 1996 Wrangler uses a standard Y157 mechanical blank, no chip, no transponder, no programming involved. I cut a fresh key on the machine in my van and tested it through every lock: ignition, both doors, tailgate.
She watched the whole thing from the driveway. When the engine turned over she just stood there for a second, like she expected something else to go wrong. It didn't.
The whole job, arrival to her driving away, was under 30 minutes. No tow truck. No waiting room. No second trip. Just a clean key cut on site for a fraction of what they wanted at the dealership.
