2015 Jeep Wrangler Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
An X-ray tech working the overnight shift at an urgent care clinic in Oxnard, over in the South Bank neighborhood, came out to the employee lot after midnight and her 2015 Wrangler would not turn over. Key went into the ignition, turned, nothing. Dash lit up with the red security dot and just sat there. Not a battery issue in the fob. The remote head key itself had failed on the transponder side.
It was Monday night. She called the dealer and got a recording. Earliest appointment was Friday. She still had three night shifts between now and then.
I pulled into the clinic lot before 1am. Connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran the key learning procedure for the JK platform. The 2015 Wrangler uses the WIN module, which is the wireless ignition node integrated into the ignition housing. Security access took a few minutes to pull through. Her replacement was an OHT692427AA with the Y160 blade, 4 buttons including remote start.
Cut the key on my mobile machine, programmed the transponder and remote, tested ignition start, tested all four remote buttons from 30 feet away, locked and unlocked from the driver door. She sat in the passenger seat the whole time watching.
Drove home about 35 minutes after calling me. The dealer route would have cost her a good chunk more, but honestly the bigger save was four days of not being stranded.
