2006 Jeep Wrangler Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Saturday morning out near the Peach Hill neighborhood in Moorpark. A bakery owner with a 2006 Jeep Wrangler walked back from setting up her farmers market booth and got nothing. Dead fob buttons, no remote response, the key turned but the engine cranked and quit every time. Sentry Key light solid on the dash.
Dealer was closed until Monday. Her product was already on the table. She found my number and I headed out.
I got to the lot in about 40 minutes. Tested her original remote head key first. The CR2032 was completely flat, which killed the lock/unlock buttons, but the real problem was deeper. The transponder signal wasn't reading at the SKIM module at all. Battery swap alone wouldn't have fixed the no-start.
I pulled a blank OHT692427AA from my stock, cut the blade to match her Y160 keyway using her door lock for decoding, then cloned a fresh TK5561A transponder with my VVDI Key Tool. Programmed the remote side through OBD to the receiver module so all four buttons worked: lock, unlock, panic, and the rear glass release.
Tested every function twice. Doors, ignition, remote range from across the lot. She watched the whole thing from her booth, glancing over between customers.
She drove home after the market closed. No tow, no Monday appointment, no sitting around a dealer waiting room.
