Up in the Riviera in Santa Barbara, I got a call from a guy who had been fighting his 1999 Jeep Wrangler for about two weeks. The key was getting harder to turn every day. He'd been jiggling it, pulling up on the steering column, doing the whole ritual. Then one morning it just stopped turning at all.

He asked me what it would have cost at the dealer. I told him to count what he saved and put it toward a lighter keychain.
