Got a call from a preschool teacher over in the Mesa neighborhood in Santa Barbara. She was at a laundromat, had her 1998 Jeep Wrangler running fine, but only owned one key and wanted a spare before that one disappeared into the chaos of her life. Her words.

The PCB inside the steering column housing reads the transponder in the key head every time you turn the ignition. No correct chip response, no fuel, no spark. Simple as that.
I pulled up on the SKIM module through the diagnostic port with my Smart Pro, ran the security access sequence, and registered the new BY160-PT blank. Cut the blade to her existing key, tested ignition three times to make sure the SKIM accepted it clean.
Whole thing was about 20 minutes. She held both keys up side by side like she was checking for differences. There aren't any. Same rubber head, same blade, same chip inside. Just one less thing to worry about on a Monday morning.
