Got a call from a guy near Lost Canyons Golf Club in Simi Valley. His 1997 Wrangler TJ was sitting in the lot and he had zero keys. Lost the only one somewhere on the course, retraced the whole back nine, nothing.
He had already called the Jeep dealer. They told him to get the vehicle towed in and it would be a couple days before they could get to it. He asked what that would run. The answer made him keep looking.
I drove out and started with the VIN plate on the dash to pull the original key code from the Chrysler database. The 1997 TJ uses a standard Y159 mechanical blank with no transponder, no chip, no programming step. Just a precisely cut key that matches the factory wafer pattern in the ignition cylinder.
I cut the key on my mobile machine right there in the parking lot. Slid it into the ignition, turned it, and the 4.0 inline six fired up on the first try. Then I tested the doors and the rear liftgate lock. Everything matched.
The whole job took maybe 20 minutes. He stood there watching the cut happen and said something like "that's it?" Because he was bracing for the dealer version of this day, which involved a flatbed, a waiting room, and a much bigger number.
It was just a key. Cut right, on site, done.
