2001 Jeep Wrangler Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A dad over near Moorpark Marketplace had just picked up a used 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ from a small lot. Good shape, fair deal, one key. The lot told him to handle the spare on his own. He figured a basic key would be simple enough.
The Jeep dealer corrected that assumption in a hurry. Way more than he wanted to spend, plus a wait to get the vehicle in. He was already stretching his budget after a rough year.

His key is a Y160-PT blank with a Philips PCF7936 transponder chip inside, which talks to the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) mounted on the steering column. Since he still had one working key, I used my VVDI2 to clone the ID46 chip data directly onto a fresh blank. No need to pull the SKIM offline or reflash anything. Cut the Y159 blade on the HPC 1200, tested the mechanical turn in the ignition, then started the Jeep.
Fired right up. No security light, no crank-no-start.
He sat there with a taco in one hand and his old key in the other while I handed him the new one. Two working keys now. That means if one ever disappears, the next replacement is a quick clone instead of an all-keys-lost SKIM procedure, which saves a good chunk down the line.
