2003 Toyota Highlander Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call around 11pm from a guy up on San Marcos Pass in Santa Barbara. His 2003 Highlander was sitting in the driveway, and his only key had finally snapped at the plastic head where the transponder sits. He had the blade, he had the broken housing, and he had a remote that still clicked. But the car would not start because the 4C chip was in the cracked half sitting on his kitchen counter.

I drove up the pass and got to work on his hood. Cut a new TOY43 blade on my Condor, then transferred his original 4C chip into a fresh transponder shell. That chip was already registered to his immobilizer ECU, so no programming needed on the engine-start side. Then I paired a new HYQ12BAN remote using the OBD door-lock procedure: key on, key off, cycle the driver lock switch five times, close and open the driver door, then hold lock and unlock on the new remote. Three-second pause, indicator lock cycles, done.

He stood there holding the old broken pieces like he was not ready to let go of them yet. Force of habit.

Whole job took about 25 minutes in his driveway. No tow, no waiting days, and he paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
