2011 Toyota Highlander Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Highlander owner over on Surfside Drive area in Port Hueneme called about a cracked smart key. Her HYQ14AAB fob had the classic failure: rubber button pad worn through on the lock button, plastic shell split right along the back seam where the emergency key slides out. She said the dealer quoted her a full replacement, new fob, new programming, new blade.
What they did not mention is that the 271451-0140 board and the D4 transponder chip inside were working fine. She just needed a new shell and fresh buttons.
I met her in the cul-de-sac with replacement shells and my TOY43AT Lishi. That Lishi fits the updated Toyota keyway and reads the lock wafers directly so I can verify the existing emergency blade cut before swapping housings. Her fob had the same crack pattern I see constantly on these second-gen Highlander keys. The thin plastic right behind the button pad gives out first.
I moved the electronics into a new shell, seated a fresh CR1632, and cut a new emergency insert blade on site. Then the real test: lock, unlock, panic, hatch release, push-button start, and both front door touch sensors. Everything responded clean.
She did not need a whole new smart key. The expensive parts, the board, the chip, those were fine. A shell swap and a fresh blade, done on her street, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
