A mom had parked there after dropping her kid at a nearby activity. When she came back, the door handle would not respond to touch, the start button sat there blinking, and the dash was showing a key-not-detected warning. She had the fob in her hand the whole time. She tried holding it closer to the button. She tried the passenger door. Nothing.

Straightened the contact, put in a fresh CR2032, closed it back up.
Then I walked every function. Touch unlock on the driver door, touch unlock on the passenger door, all four buttons, start button response. Everything came back normal. The immobilizer was reading the fob fine once the battery had enough output to communicate cleanly.
She did not need a new fob, did not need programming, did not need a tow to the dealer. What she needed was someone to show up and do the boring methodical stuff that dealership intake lines do not have time for. I was back in my van before the hour was up, and she had the rest of her afternoon back.
