2014 Toyota Highlander Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman parked near the Ojai Post Office Tower area. Her 2014 Highlander was throwing "Key Not Detected" every time she hit the start button. She had one smart key, and it had been acting up for a week. Shorter range, then nothing.
She already called the dealer in Thousand Oaks. They told her to tow it in. Quoted a wait of three to five business days just for the replacement fob to come in, plus the programming appointment after that. She did not have a second key and did not have a week to wait.
I pulled up, connected my programmer through the OBD-II port, and ran the seed calculation on her immobilizer. The 2014 Highlander uses the Toyota Smart Key system with DST80 encryption on the H chip, same protocol across the XU50 platform. My tool reads the immobilizer ECU, calculates the key data, and writes to the new HYQ14FBA. Then I cut the emergency insert blade to match her door lock.
The part that made me laugh: after I handed her the new fob and she tested the push-to-start, she walked around the car pressing every door handle just to watch them lock and unlock. Passenger side, rear doors, liftgate button. Like she was proving to herself it was real.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes in the parking lot. No tow, no waiting on a parts order, and she saved a good chunk over what the dealer quoted.
