He was on the shoulder off the 101 near Birnam Wood, which is not a fun place to be stuck. His 2001 Toyota Sequoia wasn't going anywhere because half his key blade was still in the ignition cylinder and the other half was in his hand.

I got there with the right extraction tooling for Toyota's keyway. Worked the broken fragment out without touching the wafer stack. No drilling, no damaged cylinder. Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock from the wafer positions, cut a fresh blade to match, and programmed a new transponder chip through the OBD port. The fob he had was separate and still working, so that stayed exactly as it was. He just needed a new metal key with a correctly programmed chip inside.
The whole thing took under an hour. His original ignition cylinder works the same as it did before. No marks on the lock, no scratched door panel, no parts replaced that didn't need to be.
The other locksmith's quote would have been more than double what he paid me. And he would have had a new ignition cylinder that didn't need to be there.
