2012 Toyota Sequoia Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman in Goleta, near Ellwood Mesa Open Space, about her 2012 Sequoia. The key fob shell had cracked along the seam and the rubber button pad was worn through to the circuit board underneath. She had already gone to the Toyota dealer and they quoted her for a full replacement key, programmed and cut. What they never mentioned is that the internals were perfectly fine.
I met her in her cul-de-sac. The fob had that same split pattern I see on hundreds of these second-gen Sequoia keys, right along the mold line where the two halves meet. Toyota used the same housing across the Tundra and Sequoia for years and they all crack in the same spot.
I pulled out my TOY43AT Lishi and decoded her door lock to verify the existing blade's cuts were still good. The TOY43AT reads the wafer positions inside the lock so I can confirm the cut depths without needing the original key code from the dealer. Then I moved the 4D-67 chip and the remote circuit board into a fresh shell, seated a new button pad, and cut a clean emergency blade on the spot.
Tested every button, tested the transponder start sequence, watched the security light on the dash go through its normal cycle and stay off. Done.
She just needed a new shell. The expensive parts inside, the chip and the board, were not broken. Saved her a good chunk over what the dealer wanted for something she did not need.
