A woman staying at an Airbnb near Stow Grove Park in Goleta called me around 7 PM. Her only fob for a 2013 Sequoia had stopped working mid-trip. Push-to-start did nothing. Popped open her HYQ14AAB and the CR2032 looked fine voltage-wise, but the board contacts had a white film on them, like the previous battery had leaked just enough to coat the pads. Cleaned the board, dropped a fresh CR2032 in, and the fob lit up. Doors unlocked on the first press.
But the start button still would not fire. The immobilizer had thrown a fault. I connected through the OBD-II port, cleared the stored code, and re-registered the fob to the immobilizer ECU. Engine turned over clean.
She sat down on the porch steps and just watched the truck idle for a minute, like she needed proof it was real.
Total time on site was about 25 minutes. She kept her original fob, her original key, and the rest of her evening.
