2020 Toyota Sequoia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy near Oxnard State Beach Park in Oxnard was sitting in a Home Depot parking lot on his lunch break, locked out of his own 2020 Toyota Sequoia. He had one working smart key, and his wife lost the second one somewhere at the beach a week earlier. He called the dealer first. They told him to schedule an appointment, bring the truck in, and wait for the part to arrive. That put him out at least a week, maybe more.

He found me online and called while he was still eating a sandwich in the passenger seat of a coworker's car.

I pulled up next to him about 40 minutes later. The Sequoia runs the Toyota Smart Key system with the 128-bit AES encrypted Texas Instruments DST-AES transponder inside the HYQ14FBA fob. The Smart Key ECU, the one bolted behind the dash (89990-0C051), talks to the key through several cabin and door antennas. Programming goes through the OBD-II port under the steering column. My diagnostic tool handshakes with the Smart Key ECU, registers the new fob's transponder, and writes it to the accepted key list. The old lost fob gets wiped from the system at the same time.

I cut the new emergency insert blade on site, tested all four buttons, ran the push-button start twice, and checked both front door touch-to-unlock sensors.

He sat in his truck the whole time, finishing his lunch. The whole job took about 35 minutes. He kept his appointment window. No tow, no dealer waiting room, and a fraction of what they quoted him.
