2008 Toyota Sequoia Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman near Shiells Park in Fillmore. Her 2008 Sequoia had one working key left and she wanted a spare before that one disappeared too. She had already called the Toyota dealer and they told her to bring the truck in, leave it, and expect to pick it up the next day. Something about waiting on a master tech's schedule.
I met her at her truck in a parking lot off the main road. Pulled the VIN from the dash, confirmed the key specs: TOY43 blade, 4D-67 transponder chip, and the GQ43VT20T remote with four buttons. The Sequoia's immobilizer on this generation is the Toyota Anti-Theft System, where a coil antenna around the ignition cylinder reads the chip every time you turn the key. No chip response, no fuel injector pulse, engine cranks but won't fire.
Connected my programmer through the OBD-II port, pulled the seed data from the immobilizer ECU, and wrote the new 4D-67 chip. Cut the blade to code. Then paired the remote separately, which on these is a manual procedure: insert key, cycle ignition, hold lock and unlock within a timed window. Tested the transponder start, tested all four remote buttons including the hatch release.
She stood there watching the whole thing, arms crossed, like she was waiting for something to go wrong. When it started on the new key, she just nodded and said "huh."
The whole job ran about 25 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she never left her truck.
