2011 Toyota Sequoia Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy out near Coal Oil Point Reserve in Goleta had just picked up a 2011 Toyota Sequoia off Craigslist. Good truck, fair price, one key. The seller handed him a single blade key with a chewed-up rubber head and told him to sort out a spare on his own.
He tried the hardware store first. They looked at the key, saw the chip inside, and told him they could cut the blade but not program anything. Which is right. The 4D-67 transponder in this key has to talk to the immobilizer or the engine cranks and dies. Hardware store blade alone gets you nothing.
He called the dealer. They quoted him a wait of a few days just to get the blank ordered, plus a second appointment for cutting and registration. Then he called me.
I met him at his parking spot with a VVDI2, a TOY43 blank with a 4D-67 chip already in it, and my key machine. Read his original transponder through the VVDI2, cloned the fixed code onto the new chip, cut the blade to match, and tested it cold. Key in, engine starts, no security light.
Whole thing took about twenty minutes on the hood of his truck. He drove off with two working keys. That second key also means if one ever goes missing, the next replacement stays a simple add-a-key job instead of an all-keys-lost extraction, which is a completely different level of work.
