2009 Toyota Sequoia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I need to tow my Sequoia to the dealer for a key replacement?

No. Dealers will often tell you to tow the vehicle in, especially if you have no working key, and the tow bill alone adds up before they even look at the car. We come to you in Fillmore and do the cutting and programming at the vehicle. You stay put. The Sequoia is a big truck -- towing it anywhere is an unnecessary hassle when the whole job can be done in your driveway or parking lot.

Q: What do I need to prove I own the vehicle?

A valid photo ID and proof of ownership -- registration or title. We also verify the VIN from the dashboard plate or door jamb sticker to confirm the correct key specifications for your Sequoia. Same standard a dealer would hold you to, just handled on site in a few minutes instead of waiting for a service advisor to process paperwork. Keep both documents accessible and the appointment goes fast.

Q: I replaced the battery in my Sequoia fob and now it still is not working. What is going on?

A few things can cause this. First, check the battery contacts inside the fob -- if the case got pried open instead of popped, the contact tabs can bend just enough to lose connection even with a fresh CR2032 seated inside. Clean the contacts and reseat the battery. If the contacts look fine and it still does not work, the fob may have lost its pairing with the vehicle.

Q: Can I add a second fob to my 2009 Sequoia, or do I need to erase the existing one first?

You can add a fob without wiping the existing one -- as long as you have a working fob present during the programming procedure. The vehicle can store multiple remotes. If you have lost all remotes, that is an all-keys-lost situation and requires a different approach, but the existing fob does not get erased just because you are adding another one. Bring your current working fob when we come out and the job stays simple.

2009 Toyota Sequoia Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Heritage Valley had been wrestling with her 2009 Sequoia ignition for a few weeks. Not a total failure -- some mornings it turned fine, other mornings she was sitting in the parking lot near the yoga studio wiggling the key and hoping. She finally called the dealer. They quoted her a full ignition cylinder replacement, new keys, the whole package.

She found me instead.

I pulled up and checked the cylinder before touching anything. Worn internal wafers were the story -- not a dead lock, not a broken cylinder. The kind of wear that builds up slowly over fifteen years of daily use until one day the key starts catching and the owner thinks the whole thing is gone.

I decoded the lock, swapped the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key matched to the repaired cylinder. Then I confirmed the remote fob was still pairing correctly with the vehicle. It was. Nothing else needed.

The cylinder turns smooth now. The key slides in and out like it should. She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted for parts she never needed.
