2022 Toyota Sequoia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Toyota Sequoia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a mom parked in the lot near a school in the Rose Park area of Oxnard. She was there for a conference and her fob had gone quiet. No response from the door handles, no start. She had a pickup at another school at 3pm and zero time to deal with a dealer appointment.

She had already tried the obvious. Fresh battery, same problem. She called the dealer, who gave her a price that made her pause and told her the earliest they could get her in was end of the week. That did not help her afternoon at all.

I pulled up, popped the OBD port cover, and got to work. The 2022 Sequoia's smart key registration runs through diagnostic equipment, so I connected my programmer and walked through the Toyota key registration sequence. The fob she had was the factory 3-button unit with the factory FCC ID on it, which matched what the vehicle was expecting. The registration process on these takes some time because the security handshake has a built-in delay, but it ran clean.

I tested every button, walked both front door handles to confirm touch-unlock was responding, and had her run through the start sequence herself before I closed up. She was out of that lot with time to spare before her 3pm pickup.

The dealer option would have meant a tow, a wait stretching into the following week, and a bill that was a good chunk more than what she paid me. My total time on site was under 30 minutes.
