2018 Toyota Sequoia Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Ellwood, just off the coast side of Goleta, a guy had picked up a used 2018 Sequoia from a private seller. Good shape, reasonable miles, one key. The seller threw it across the seat and said "get yourself a spare." Simple enough, right.

He went to a hardware store first. They looked at the fob, said they couldn't touch it, and pointed him toward the dealer. He called the dealer, got a quote that made him set the phone down for a second, then called me.

I met him near his place in Ellwood. He handed me the fob and I could tell right away the rubber on the button pad was worn thin from years of pocket carry. The 2018 Sequoia needs that registration step done with proper equipment. There's no ignition-turn sequence you can do in your driveway to add a key on this system.

The whole thing took about forty minutes at his curb. He drove away with two working keys, a fresh battery already seated in the new fob, and the knowledge that if something ever happens to one of them, his next call is an add-a-key job rather than an all-keys-lost situation. That difference matters. All-keys-lost resets take longer and cost more. Having a spare in the drawer is cheap insurance.

He asked about the dealer quote on the way out. I told him what I charged was a fraction of what they wanted. He nodded like that tracked with everything else about buying the truck used.
