2007 Chevrolet Colorado Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a body shop over in Windsor North/River Ridge in Oxnard. They had a 2007 Colorado sitting in their bay, owner locked out, and a problem nobody wanted to explain clearly over the phone.
When I got there, the full picture came out. Another locksmith had already been out. He tried to program a replacement fob, got a vehicle security warning on the dash partway through, and walked off the job. Left the truck unable to start and the body shop holding the bill.
A failed programming attempt that gets interrupted mid-sequence can push the vehicle security system into a fault state. The OBD port was effectively locked out from standard tooling at that point. Normal approach would have stalled there too.
I had my bench programming setup with me. I pulled the body control module, read the security data directly off the chip, cleared the fault state, and rebuilt the security configuration before trying to enroll anything new. Once the module was clean, the new fob paired on the first attempt. Lock, unlock, and the third button all tested out. Truck started like nothing had happened.
The body shop owner watched the whole thing and asked why the first guy didn't just do that. Honest answer: not everyone carries bench tools. It is a bigger investment in equipment, and most jobs do not need it. But when a previous attempt has already gone sideways, that is exactly when you need the fallback.
Job ran about an hour and a half. The dealer alternative was a flatbed, a multi-day wait, and a bill that would have been a lot more than what I charged. They got it same day, on-site, and the truck left the shop under its own power.
