Guy landed back at the Oxnard airport economy lot after a week-long trip, and his 2017 Colorado was just sitting there ignoring him. Pressed the lock button on his OHT01060512 flip key. Nothing. Unlock. Nothing. Doors locked, fob completely dead.
He called the dealer. Two days out for the earliest appointment. Then a tow company wanted to charge him just to pull the truck out of the lot. That is when he found me.
I got to the lot in about 40 minutes. First thing, I picked the HU100 sidebar lock and got the door open. Once inside, I flipped his key blade out and turned the ignition. Cranked and started right up. That told me the PK3+ transponder chip was fine and the immobilizer had no issue with it. The whole problem was a dead CR2032 in the fob shell.
I popped the fob case, swapped in a fresh CR2032, and tested every button: lock, unlock, trunk. All responded. Then I connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port and pulled the body control module. Both of his keys were still registered. No faults stored on the BCM besides the expected low-fob-battery flag, which I cleared.
He looked at me like I was about to tell him something expensive. I told him it was a battery. He drove home to La Colonia that same afternoon. The dealer route would have cost him two lost days and a tow bill on top of the service charge. This was a fraction of that.
