2009 Chevrolet Colorado Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy in Carriage Square on a Wednesday morning. His 2009 Colorado had been sitting in the driveway since Monday. He had lost his only key somewhere over the weekend and spent two days convinced it would turn up. It did not.
He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow the truck in and plan for parts to be ordered, with a turnaround of several business days. He was doing side work out of that truck and several business days was not an answer he could afford.
I pulled up to his place in Carriage Square with the truck right there in the driveway, which made the whole job easier. With all keys lost on this generation, you work through the diagnostic port to re-initialize the immobilizer and register the new transponder. The vehicle has a timed security relearn built in that you cannot skip. You wait it out. It is not complicated, but it takes what it takes.
Once the relearn finished, I cut the blade to match the door lock and tested the ignition. Truck started on the first turn. I handed him the key and he just held it for a second, then said something like, "That is it?"
That is it. Wednesday call, Wednesday fix, truck back in service the same afternoon. He mentioned what the dealer had quoted and what the tow alone would have run. I told him to save the receipt in case he ever needs to explain to someone why having a spare made is worth doing before you are stuck.
