A couple over near Hollywood Beach in Oxnard came out of the bowling alley on a Saturday night and the 2011 Colorado wouldn't turn over. Key went in, cranked strong, but the engine refused to catch. The security light on the dash was on solid, which told the whole story before I even got there.
They figured dead fuel pump. Then one of them noticed the security lamp and searched around on their phone. Found me about 15 minutes out.
When I showed up, the original B111 key blade was chewed up pretty good at the bow, and the transponder pellet in the key head had a hairline crack in the housing. The PK3+ system on these first-gen Colorados reads the ID46 chip through a ring antenna around the ignition cylinder. Damaged chip, weak signal, immobilizer locks out fuel delivery. Classic.
I cut a fresh B111-PT blank on my Condor XC-Mini, seated a new PCF7936 transponder, and programmed it through the OBD-II port with my IM608. The Theft Deterrent relearn took about ten minutes. Turned the key, engine caught on the first crank, security light went out.
They had been ready to leave the truck in the lot until Monday and call the dealer. Instead they drove home Saturday night. The whole job, start to finish, ran a fraction of what the dealership would have quoted, and they didn't lose a weekend to it.
