A woman at the Target lot near Downtown Oxnard called me on her lunch break. Her 2016 Chevrolet Colorado had one working key left and the head was cracking around the blade. She was convinced it had to go to the dealer. She'd read it on a Colorado forum, her coworker told her the same thing, and the dealer's own site said "visit our service center for key programming."
All of them were either wrong or outdated.
I pulled in two spots over. She was eating a sandwich in the driver seat with the door open and the radio going. I grabbed the working key, read the ID 48 transponder data off it with my VVDI Key Tool, and generated a clone onto a fresh B119-PHT blank. Cut the blade on my mobile machine using the original as the reference. Whole thing took maybe 20 minutes.
Then the part that actually matters: testing. Key in, ignition to run, watch the theft deterrent light. It flickered and went out. Engine fired clean. Turned it off, did it again. Cycled the M3N-32337100 remote separately, lock, unlock, panic. All good.
She looked at the new key and the old cracked one side by side like she was waiting for a difference. There wasn't one. The body control module accepted both the same way. She went back to her sandwich and I packed up.
The whole job happened in a Target parking lot in Oxnard over a lunch break. Her Colorado never moved.
