Got a call from a guy up at Rose Valley Campground in Ojai. He was loading gear back into his 2013 Chevrolet Traverse after a few nights out there and the key just would not turn past accessory. He could feel it catching, like the cylinder was fighting him.
Classic worn sidebar wafers. The B111 lock cylinder in these Lambda platform trucks gets gritty over time, especially when people carry the key loose with other metal. The wafers wear down, the sidebar stops dropping, and one day the key goes in but nothing happens.
He had already called around. Dealer wanted to schedule him days out, truck would need a tow down the hill, and he would be sitting in a waiting room while they pulled the column apart. That was going to eat most of a week between the tow, the appointment, and parts.
I drove up to the campground. Used my B111 Lishi to decode the cylinder and verify which wafers were shot. Cut a fresh key to original depths on the code machine in my van, then ran the PK3+ security relearn through the OBD port. The 10-minute learn cycle on PK3+ is just a timer you wait out. Nothing complicated, just patience.
Cut him a spare too. He stuck it in his wallet sleeve and drove home with two working keys. His Traverse never left the campsite.
