Got a call from a guy at the gym near Ebell Park in Santa Paula. His 2020 Chevrolet Traverse had been acting up for weeks. Push the start button, nothing. Dashboard says "No Remote Detected." He'd hold the fob right against the steering column and it would finally catch, but only sometimes.
He figured the fob was dying and bought a CR2032 at the drugstore. Swapped it. Same thing.
When I got there, I pulled up the BCM with my diagnostic tool through the OBD-II port. The fob was registering intermittently, dropping signal at random. I opened up the HYQ4EA and found the issue right away: one of the battery contact clips had a slight bend, just enough to let the CR2032 shift when the fob bounced around in his pocket. The connection would break for a split second, and the BCM would lose the handshake.
Straightened the clip, cleaned both contact points, reseated the battery, and ran a full RF signal check. Then I walked every function: push-button start, both front door proximity sensors, the liftgate button, lock, unlock, remote start. All five buttons on the fob, every proximity zone on the car.
He stood there watching the dash, waiting for it to fail again. It didn't.
No new fob needed. No dealer visit, no tow, no reprogram. Just a bent clip and ten minutes in a parking lot, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted just to look at it.
