2025 Chevrolet Traverse
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What kind of key does the 2025 Chevrolet Traverse use?

It uses a remote with a key blade built in. The fob handles your lock and unlock functions and the other buttons on the five-button unit, while the blade itself is there as a mechanical backup. The remote also has a transponder that communicates with the vehicle's immobilizer. Both sides of that have to be in order for the vehicle to operate normally.

Q: Why does key programming at a Chevrolet dealer take so long compared to what the actual work requires?

A few things stack up. Parts availability is the biggest one. If the remote isn't sitting on their shelf, you wait for an order. Beyond that, the vehicle has to be physically in the service bay for the programming process, which means working around the shop schedule. The security relearn procedure also has timed cycles built into it that can't be skipped.

Q: I bought a replacement remote online for my 2025 Traverse. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2025 Traverse does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. Registering a new remote requires a professional diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to communicate with the vehicle's immobilizer and enroll the new fob. The online remote will work fine once it's properly programmed, but that step can't be skipped. If you already bought one, bring it to us and we'll do the programming at your vehicle in Santa Paula.

Q: My 2025 Traverse remote works fine up close but the range has dropped way off. Is the fob failing?

Usually it's the battery. The CR2450 in this remote doesn't always give obvious warning before it gets weak. A cell that reads acceptable on a basic tester can still drop signal range significantly under the actual load of transmitting. Swap in a fresh CR2450 first and make sure it's seated flat with both contacts touching cleanly. If range comes back, that was the whole problem.

2025 Chevrolet Traverse Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He had landed back at the airport, rode the shuttle to the economy lot, and his 2025 Traverse just sat there. Lock, unlock, nothing. The fob was completely dead and the doors were shut tight.

He called the dealer first. Two days out for the earliest appointment. Then a tow company quoted him a number that made the dealer visit feel cheap by comparison. He found EZ Car Keyz and asked if I could come to him at the lot.

I was there within 40 minutes.

Getting the door open was the first step. Once I was in, I connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port and pulled vehicle data to confirm the key status. Both his remotes were still registered to the vehicle. The fob battery had simply gone flat, and the backup procedure for getting the car started without a working fob hadn't clicked for him in the moment, which is completely understandable at the end of a long trip.

Fresh CR2450 in the factory remote, resync, full button test. Everything came back clean.

He drove out of that economy lot the same afternoon. The dealer appointment, the tow, the two-day wait, none of that happened. He mentioned it cost him a fraction of what that tow alone would have run. I didn't bring up the dealer quote. Didn't need to.

Chevrolet Traverse Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a Chevrolet dealer actually take for key replacement on a 2025 Traverse?▼

Longer than the work itself requires. The hands-on programming portion, once the vehicle is in the bay, typically wraps up well under an hour. The delay usually comes from parts. If the dealer doesn't have the exact remote in stock, owners report waiting days or longer just to get a second key after a new vehicle purchase.
