2022 Chevrolet Traverse
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2022 Chevrolet Traverse Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

The Limoneira neighborhood in Santa Paula sits off a long access road with tight turns and low clearance at a few of the covered parking structures. It is the kind of layout that tow trucks hate. I know because the owner of a 2022 Traverse called me after a tow company already told him they could not get in.

He had one fob, it had stopped being recognized by the vehicle, and the Traverse was parked in his assigned covered spot against a block wall. He could not push it, he could not tow it, and the dealer told him to bring it in. Not exactly helpful when it will not start.

I parked on the street and walked in with my bag. The covered spot was tight enough that I worked off the back corner of his bumper. Popped the fob open, seated a fresh CR2032, tested range. Still nothing reliable. Ran diagnostics through the port, confirmed the fob had dropped out of the vehicle's key memory, likely from a combination of the dead battery and some accumulated time without use.

Programmed a replacement fob on site, verified all five buttons, confirmed the push-button start recognized the key from the driver's seat, driver's side door, and passenger side. Walked him through using the mechanical blade inside the fob for the rare situation where the battery goes completely flat and the backup start method is needed.

His car never moved from that spot. The dealer comparison came up at the end, almost as an aside. He had already called them. The quote was high and involved waiting on a part. He just nodded when I told him what he owed me. Way less.
