2019 Chevrolet Traverse Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Ellwood, a woman flagged me down in a parking lot near the trailhead off Coronado. Not literally flagged me down, but close. She'd messaged me the night before saying her 2019 Traverse was "being weird about starting." When I pulled up, she'd already tried a new battery in the fob and was convinced the whole key needed to be replaced.
She walked me through it. Some mornings it started fine. Other times she'd sit there pressing the button and nothing would happen for a full minute, then it would catch. The fob buttons worked the whole time, locks responding normally. That pattern told me something before I even touched anything.
I plugged into the OBD port and pulled the data. No key enrollment faults. The fob was registering every single time. The vehicle security system was reading it correctly. The issue was downstream of the key entirely.
Once I explained that to her, she got quiet for a second and then said, "So I didn't need a new key." Correct. She did not need a new key.
The job that morning was diagnostic, not a key replacement. That's the honest version of the work sometimes. I'd rather tell someone their fob is fine than sell them a spare they don't need yet. When she does want a spare cut and programmed, she knows who to call.
