Got a call from a guy near the Newbury Park area in Thousand Oaks. He had a 2015 Chevrolet Express cargo van sitting at a community center lot, and it would crank for about two seconds then die. Classic immobilizer kill. The security light on the dash was staying solid, which on these GM vans means the body control module saw an unrecognized transponder.

He told me another locksmith had already come out, cut a key, and charged him full price. But the tech apparently rushed the PK3+ security learn and never let the 10-minute timer run through. So the BCM wrote the key into temporary memory and never committed it. The other guy blamed the body control module and left.

The module was fine. I pulled out my B111 Lishi, verified the blade cuts matched the lock, then connected my IM608 through the OBD-II port under the dash. Cleared the failed learn data from the BCM, started a clean relearn, and sat through the full 10-minute wait period the PK3+ system demands. No shortcut for that timer. It runs or the key never sticks.

Once it confirmed, I showed him the IM608 screen with the key ID written to permanent memory. He turned it over three times just to watch it keep running past the two-second mark.

I could not undo what he paid the first guy. But at least the van was driving again, for way less than the dealer would have wanted on top of everything else.
