Got a call from a guy stuck near Rincon Beach Park in Carpinteria. His 2003 Chevrolet Impala key snapped clean in the ignition. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, the other half in his hand. He had already talked to another locksmith who told him the whole ignition needed to come out, new cylinder, new keys, big job.

I drove out and took a look. The break was mid-blade, but the fragment was seated deep enough that pliers weren't going to do it without chewing up the wafers. I slid my B106 Lishi into the cylinder alongside the broken piece, worked the fragment forward without scarring the wafer surfaces, and pulled it clean.

With the cylinder empty and undamaged, I decoded it right there. Read each wafer position for the exact cut depths. His Impala uses a plain mechanical key, B102 blank, no transponder chip. Passlock II does its security work inside the cylinder housing, not the key. So I cut a fresh blade from the decode, tested the lock and ignition, and the Passlock sensor picked up the new key on the first turn with no relearn needed.

He sat on the tailgate the whole time watching. When it fired up he just nodded, like he already knew it should have been that simple.

No drilling. No new cylinder. Original lock, new key, done on the shoulder for a fraction of what the other guy quoted.
