2016 Chevrolet Impala Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already wrapping up another call near the Mesa when my phone went off. A couple in Mission Canyon, Saturday evening, standing next to their 2016 Impala in the driveway. Both fobs had gone dark. No lock, no unlock, no response at all. They had tried pressing harder, which never helps, and one of them had already looked up how long the dealer takes for a key appointment.

I pulled up to the house about twenty minutes later with the right flip key shell and blank already pulled from the drawer before I left the previous job. For this Impala, the factory fob is a five-button remote flip key running a CR2032, and I carry those cells by the sleeve.

Popped both fobs open on the hood of my van. One battery was reading almost nothing. The other had some juice left but the contacts had a faint green tint on them, which will kill range even if the voltage looks okay on a meter. Swapped both cells, cleaned the contacts, snapped the shells back together.

Then I ran through every button on both fobs, walked the car, checked the doors, and did a quick resync at the OBD port to make sure both remotes were talking to the car cleanly. Everything came back. The couple seemed genuinely surprised it was that fast.

They asked about the dealer. I told them what that appointment would have looked like: a Monday drop-off, a diagnostic fee, a parts order, probably a day and a half turnaround. They drove home Saturday night instead.
