Got a call from a woman near the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. She had a 2015 Impala and one working flip key that was falling apart. The case was cracked along the seam, the flip blade was loose, and she was holding it together with a hair tie. She wanted a spare made before the original gave up completely.
She had already texted me the VIN and sent a photo of her registration. That is the dream start. I pulled her key data before I left my last job, confirmed the 5-button OHT01060512 config, and had a fresh blank and uncut HU100 blade prepped in the van on the drive over.
When I got there, she handed me the beat-up original. I cloned the ID46 chip from her working key onto the new PCF7941E using my VVDI2, cut the HU100 blade to match, and assembled the new remote flip key. Then I paired the remote through the OBD port, ran GM's security relearn procedure, and tested every button. Lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, panic. Walked all four doors. Started the engine twice.
Sixteen minutes, parking to handoff. She turned the new key over in her hand a couple times like she was checking if it was real.
Her old key got the hair tie removed and went into her bag as a backup. The dealer quoted her a week wait and a number that made her laugh. This was done on the grass near the museum before her coffee got cold.
