2007 Chevrolet Impala
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key last on a 2007 Impala?

A long time, if it's treated reasonably. The transponder chip inside is solid state and doesn't wear out under normal use. What usually goes first is the plastic key head cracking, especially around the key ring hole, or the blade showing wear at the tip after years of heavy use. If the plastic housing cracks but the chip is still intact, the chip can usually be moved into a new key head shell without needing to reprogram anything.

Q: What if the new key stops working after a few weeks?

Call me and I'll come back. That's it. We test every function before leaving the job. If something develops under normal use after the fact, we stand behind it. The scenario you want to avoid is paying good money somewhere and then being told to figure it out yourself when a button stops responding or the car won't start. That happens. It's not how we operate.

Q: My 2007 Impala cranks but shuts off immediately. Could it be the key?

Yes, and that's actually the most common sign that the immobilizer isn't recognizing the transponder. The engine management system cuts fuel within a couple seconds if the key isn't authenticated. Owners often chase this problem down the wrong road, looking at fuel pumps or sensors, when the key is the whole story. A few things can cause it.

Q: I have one working key for my 2007 Impala. Should I get a spare made now or wait until I need one?

Make the spare now. All-keys-lost on a transponder vehicle is a more involved job than adding a second key when you already have a working one in hand. It's more time, more steps, and costs more. Getting ahead of it while you have a functional key is the move most people wish they'd made before they were stranded. Rincon Point isn't exactly a place you want to be stuck waiting on a tow.

2007 Chevrolet Impala Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman over in Rincon Point called me on a Wednesday morning. Her 2007 Impala had been sitting in her driveway since Monday.

She'd had a spare made at a hardware store a while back, tried it when her original went missing, and the car would crank but die within two seconds every single time. She figured the car had a bigger problem, maybe fuel, maybe something worse, and she'd been putting off the tow.

I told her over the phone what was actually happening. The hardware store cut the blade fine, but they never touched the transponder. The immobilizer was doing exactly what it was supposed to do.

I drove out to Rincon Point that afternoon. Decoded the blade from her door lock so I had the correct cut, made a new key with the transponder properly programmed to her vehicle, and had her turn it over in the driveway. It started and stayed running.

She mentioned she'd called the dealer before me. They wanted her to tow it in and had told her it could be a few days before they'd even look at it. She'd been dreading that whole process. Mobile was the part that mattered most to her. The car never had to leave her driveway.

Chevrolet Impala Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Chevrolet vehicles?▼

We use professional-grade keys from tested suppliers that are built to the correct specification for the vehicle. On a 2007 Impala, that means the right blade profile and a transponder chip that the immobilizer will actually accept. The cheap keys floating around online are a real gamble. The blade might be cut fine but the chip inside can be inconsistent, and you won't know it's wrong until the car stalls out on you.
