1998 Lexus ES
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

It is a fair question and the scam pattern is consistent: a suspiciously low phone quote, an unmarked car, a tech who cannot name the company, and a bill that doubles once they have your keys. EZ Car Keyz shows up in a marked vehicle, gives you a firm price on the phone, and that price does not move when we arrive.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. For the 1998 Lexus ES the job covers two things: cutting the blade to your vehicle and programming the transponder chip so the immobilizer recognizes it. Both get done and both get tested before I leave. The key gets tested in the ignition and verified to start the car on site. If it does not start cleanly, we are not done yet.

Q: My 1998 Lexus ES cranks but will not start. Could it be the key?

Yes, and it is one of the more common calls I get on vehicles from this era. If the engine cranks normally but refuses to fire, the transponder chip in the key not communicating with the immobilizer is a real possibility. It can happen if someone had a copy cut at a hardware store or kiosk without programming, or if the original key's chip has failed.

Q: Can I get a key made without the original, or do I need to tow it somewhere?

No tow needed. I come to the vehicle. For the 1998 Lexus ES, an all-keys-lost situation is workable on site. The blade can be cut by decoding the lock or pulling the key code, and the transponder gets programmed to the car using the vehicle itself as part of the process. You do not need an existing working key for me to complete the job.

1998 Lexus ES Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already running a job near The Collection in Oxnard on a Saturday when a call came in about a 1998 Lexus ES. The owner had a spare key made at a hardware store a while back. Cut looked right, turned the cylinder fine, but the car would crank and not fire. Classic sign that the transponder never got programmed.

He had been driving the original for years and only found out the spare was dead when the original snapped in the door lock.

I pulled up with the right blank and the programmer already warm. Cut the new key to match the lock, ran the transponder enrollment with the car on the lot, and had him test it himself before I packed up. Turned over on the first try.

He mentioned the dealer wanted him to wait until midweek and quoted him enough that he almost just bought a used car battery charger and called it a week. My quote on the phone was firm and it did not change when I showed up.

Same job, done in the parking lot, for way less.
