Got a call from a collision center near Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard. A 2001 Lexus ES 300 had just come out of body work and needed a new key. Simple enough, except another locksmith had already tried and failed.
He attempted to register a key, got a communication error with the immobilizer ECU, and bailed. Left the system in a locked fault state where it refused all new key registration. The body shop called around, got told by two places to flatbed it to the Lexus dealer. Then they found me.
I brought my ACDP bench tool. Pulled the immobilizer module, read the EEPROM, and saw exactly what happened. The previous tech's bad handshake had corrupted the key data area. The ECU was stuck rejecting every new transponder it saw. I cleared the fault, rebuilt the registration table from scratch, and wrote it back clean.
Cut the HYQ1512V blank on my mobile machine, seated the 4C chip, and ran the programming. System accepted the new key on the first attempt. Tested ignition, remote lock, unlock, panic. Everything worked.
Showed the body shop tech what the error looked like on the EEPROM readout so he'd recognize it if another locksmith ever left a car in that state again. He just nodded and said he was saving my number.
Whole thing took about ninety minutes. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost, and no flatbed needed.
