Got a call from a woman over by St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. She was visiting someone and her only key to the ES330 was getting flaky. The remote would lock but not unlock, and she had to stand right against the door to get any response. She wanted a spare made before the original died on her completely.
She had her VIN texted to me before I even left. That told me everything: HYQ12BBT remote head key, 4D-67 chip, three-button layout. I had the right blank cut and ready in my van by the time I parked.
Her working key still had a good transponder signal, just a tired CR2016 in the remote side. I cloned the 4D-67 chip data onto a fresh key using my VVDI2, cut the blade to code, and then swapped the CR2016 in her original while I was at it. Tested both keys on start, lock, unlock, and trunk release.
She watched me do the whole thing from a bench near the entrance. When I handed her both keys working, she just nodded and said "that was it?" Nineteen minutes, parking to handoff.
She had been quoted a week's wait at the Lexus dealer in Thousand Oaks and would have had to leave the car there. This was a bench and a phone call.
