Got called to Oxnard Boulevard for a 2025 ES that wouldn't recognize its only key. Owner tried the usual: new CR2032, cleaning the contacts, even the old "hold it against the start button" trick. Nothing.
These new Lexus fobs have a specific failure point. The internal board (labeled 271451-6521) can crack near the battery holder if dropped just right. I popped the fob open on my tailgate and there it was: hairline crack right where the negative contact meets the board.
Quick solder repair got the original working again, but we both knew that was temporary. I cut and programmed a new HYQ14FLC as backup. While the LSCAN tool did its thing, he mentioned the dealer wanted him to flatbed it in, wait three days for the part, then pay their programming fee on top.
The whole job took 35 minutes in his driveway. Both fobs tested perfect: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the passive entry on all four doors. Even checked the new Digital Key setup in case he wanted to add his iPhone later.
He kept both keys, knowing that soldered original might give up eventually. Smart move. Dealer would've tossed it and charged him full price for one replacement.
