In Ventura, over in the College Area, a 2012 ES 350 owner called me after his smart key started losing range. He said he had to stand right next to the driver door and press the fob two or three times before the locks would respond. The push-button start still worked, but barely. He was already holding the fob up against the dash to get the engine going.
He found me on YouTube before any of this happened. Watched one of my Lexus smart key videos months earlier, saw the full procedure on the actual car with the tools visible, and saved my number. When the fob started acting up, he already knew who to call. He told me he liked that he could see exactly what the job looked like before picking up the phone.
I met him on site, opened the HYQ14AAB housing, and the CR1632 contacts looked fine but the battery itself was reading low. Swapped it with a fresh Panasonic CR1632, reseated the board (271451-0140), and closed it up. Then the real test: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, push-button start from three different spots around the car. Three clean starts, full range from across the lot.
Turned out he didn't need a replacement fob at all. The whole thing took about fifteen minutes. A fraction of what the dealer would have charged just to run diagnostics on it.
