Got a call from a guy stuck along the Patterson Road corridor in Oxnard. His 2000 Lexus ES 300 key snapped clean in the ignition. Half the TOY43 blade was still jammed in the cylinder, the other half sitting in his palm.
He sounded tired. Not panicked, just done. He had already called the Lexus dealer and got the answer nobody wants: tow it in, leave it for a few days, and pay a number that made him go quiet on the phone.
I got there and used my TOY43R Lishi tool to slide the broken fragment out without scoring the brass wafer surfaces inside the lock. Those wafers are soft and if you gouge one, you are buying the owner a new cylinder. Took my time. Fragment came out clean.
Decoded the lock right off the wafer positions, cut a fresh TOY43 blade on site, and cloned the 4D-67 transponder through the OBD-II port. The immobilizer on these second-gen ES 300s uses a pretty simple handshake between the transponder and the immo ECU. Registration took a couple of minutes.
His HYQ1512V remote was still clipped to the broken half, so I swapped it over to the new key housing. Tested lock, unlock, trunk. All good.
He sat in the driver's seat, turned the key, and just held it there for a second after it started. Like he was making sure. Back on the road in well under an hour, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
