2000 Lexus RX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Sea Air neighborhood in Oxnard wrapping up another job when a call came in. A guy had his 2000 Lexus RX sitting in a lot off the water, completely locked out.
He had been carrying the remote head key on one of those rings with about fifteen other keys and the blade had finally snapped at the bow - the part that goes into the ignition. He had both pieces, which was actually helpful.
I got to him in under thirty minutes. While we talked I was already pulling the right blank for his year and model. The broken blade told me the cut, so decoding was done before I even touched a file. I cut a fresh blade, transferred the remote housing, seated a new CR1616 while I was in there, and then ran the programming sequence on the car to make sure the remote portion was talking to the vehicle correctly.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him an appointment two weeks out and a wait on the part. He looked at me like I had performed a minor miracle, but honestly it was just a well-stocked van and knowing the car. The whole thing was done in that parking lot, no tow, no appointment, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
