2008 Lexus RX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman in Juanamaria, over in east Ventura. Her 2008 Lexus RX had been sitting in her driveway for two days. She could unlock the doors manually, but the car would not start. The dash was giving her a key-not-detected warning every time she put the key in.
She had already been to one auto parts store and bought a new CR2016. Battery swap did nothing. She called the Lexus dealer, and they told her she would need to leave the car and wait for a service appointment. She asked if she could just drop it off. They said they would need to look at availability.
I came to her driveway with my diagnostic equipment and a new remote head key. The original fob had a hairline crack along the seam near the panic button, the kind that happens when a key lives at the bottom of a bag for years. Moisture and vibration had been working on the internal board. The chip was not registering.
I programmed the new key through the OBD port, matched it to her vehicle's immobilizer, and cut the blade to her car right there in the driveway. The whole job ran about 30 minutes. She tested it herself: locked, unlocked, started the engine. She stood there with the fob in her hand looking slightly annoyed that the dealer had made it sound impossible.
She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote. More importantly, her car was drivable before lunch.
