A real estate agent called me at about 8 in the morning. She had a showing in North Ventura at 9, clients already confirmed, and her RX fob had gone dark overnight in a parking lot near her office. The push-button start wasn't responding, the door handles weren't sensing the fob, and she was standing next to a locked car with a dead key and no backup.

I was in the lot in under 30 minutes. The fob had a CR1632 in it that still had a little voltage but not enough for the smart key system to consistently read it. The touch sensors on the door handles need the fob signal to be clean and strong, and hers was right at the edge where it worked sometimes and failed most of the time - which is the most confusing kind of failure because the owner keeps second-guessing themselves.
I swapped the battery, cleaned the contacts, connected through the OBD port to verify the key was still properly registered, and cleared the communication fault the system had logged. Then I walked every door handle, tested the start button, and ran each of the four fob buttons to confirm they were reading correctly.
She pulled out of that lot with about 20 minutes to spare. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a full replacement and a diagnostic fee just to look at it. She didn't need any of that. Just a battery swap with the right follow-through, done on site, for a fraction of what they wanted.
