It can also behave differently based on what you're carrying, since a bag of groceries or a key on a thick keychain near the fob can affect detection range and response.

If the issue is isolated to one door handle and the other handles plus the start button work normally, the fob is almost certainly fine. That's a door-side antenna or wiring issue, not a key issue. If it's happening at all four handles equally, start with a fresh CR2032 and make sure the battery is seated squarely before anything else.
