A parent near the Main Street corridor in Ventura was sitting in the school pickup line when her 2010 RX 350 threw "No key detected" on the dash. She had one fob, the HYQ14ACX, and it was doing nothing. Doors would not lock from the handle button. Start button was dead. She was using the hidden mechanical key blade to get in and out, which on these is tucked inside the fob body and only turns the driver door cylinder.
She called the Lexus dealer. They told her the fob was probably dead, they would need to order part number 89904-0E031, and the earliest appointment was the following week. She had a work meeting in about an hour.
I pulled into the lot, popped the fob open on her hood. The CR1632 looked fine, but the negative battery contact inside the fob housing was slightly bent outward. Not making solid contact. The plastic clip that holds the board, stamped 271451-6370, had been pried open rough at some point, probably a past battery swap done with a screwdriver instead of a coin twist. Straightened the contact, cleaned it, reseated the CR1632.
Tested all four buttons. Touch unlock on both front handles. Start button. Hatch release. Everything came back.
She did not need a new fob. She needed someone to actually look at the one she had. Took about fifteen minutes on site, for a fraction of what a dealer replacement would have run.
